Gaming, Computer, Techs, Programming, Economics, etc. mixing thoughts.

Usually i'm not a blog person, who keep blogging frequently. I have tried writing a blog before but fail to keep my interest in writing stuffs. Maybe due to some difficulties in maintaining self hosted blog and have only a few friends visiting.

Well after spending sometimes in Impulse, Stardocks community, i really feel comfortable here. It's a reasonable community, no flaming, trolling (at least for now). Nice community for gaming really. So i feel like sharing my thoughts for this great community As for now, i'll tell you about my past.

Gaming is not an appealing thing where i came from, Thailand. And most of gaming communities there are mainly attended by kids(said the average is 12 years old). I really not fit in, not analytical and strategic thoughts, no reasonable supported ideas. Well cannot expect much from young kids anyway. After a while i reached out for outside world, that's the start of my Guildwars. I got a lot of international friends from there and we are still friends who keep gaming together till today. After that, i have never go back to Thai gaming communities anymore.

Adults oppinion toward gaming in Thailand is "Gaming = drugs", they think it make kids addicted and rip all their lifes. Which is kinda true if you apply for young kids who just keep playing like crazy, skipping school and stealing to buy games. Seriously when adults think like that, if you're a kid, you really have a hard time with your gaming life. Every adults i talked with looked at me with strange eyes when i said "My hobby is gaming". Luckily my parents kinda understand from the result they see from me, i'm not addicted, i got good grades, i do sports. Basically, i got my life over the gaming, not gaming over my life. Besides, i worked to get my own gaming devices myself, not just begging parents to buy for me. I've my pride to say that i studied my ass out in order to work and earn my gaming gears since the first year in Uni.

And now, i'm doing another degree here in Australia for the moment. It's a great country to live, i'm considering staying here after graduation. For now, Impulse, Stardock community is a place where i choose to live in my virtual life.

That was interesting to read of the public perception that associates gaming with drugs in your country! I don' think it has that connotatin here (Upstate NY, USA). At least, I hope not! That would not be good for my reputation in the community!

Nice to have you posting in the forums. I wish you the best in your education program.

That's not strictly true, Shamgar.  How many times have you read/heard/seen reports alog the lines of 'kid mimics video game and does very bad thing'? - which is inevitabley followed by some oprah style 'are video games destroying our youth?' nonsense debate with 'desperate mom/brother/sister' and 'obnoxious kid' - basically porting the 'issue' of computer games into the drug/drink problem debate slot.

Although, it's true, I don't think there is a DIRECT comparison between drugs and gaming as of yet.

Interesting story, Zeneroth. Good luck for after your graduation.
